Acceptable use and voice consent
Last updated: 2026-10-01
This page explains the acceptable-use rule in our Terms of Service (section 7) and the consent you give when you create a Clone Voice. It adds examples to make those rules concrete; it does not add new obligations. If anything here differs from the Terms, the Terms apply.
What you can't use NarrateHQ for
The Terms say you may not use the Service to generate audio for harassment, impersonation without disclosure, fraud, or any other purpose that violates applicable law or the rights of others. In practice, that includes:
- Harassment. Audio that threatens, intimidates, or demeans a real person.
- Impersonation without disclosure. Presenting synthetic speech as words a real person actually said, or using a voice that imitates someone to make listeners believe it is them.
- Fraud. Scam calls, fake endorsements or reviews, or using generated speech to get past a voice-based identity check.
- Violating someone else's rights. For example, narrating a book or article you don't have the rights to turn into audio, or cloning a voice without the speaker's permission.
- Anything else that breaks the law where you or your listeners are.
Before you create a Clone Voice
A cloned voice carries someone's identity, so creating one requires you to confirm both of these statements, exactly as they appear in the Clone Voice form:
- “I own or have permission to use this recording and have consent from every identifiable speaker.”
- “I understand NarrateHQ uses AI to create synthetic speech and generated output may be disclosed or labeled as AI-generated.”
Consent means the speaker agreed to have their voice cloned, not only to be recorded. If a recording includes more than one identifiable person, you need consent from each of them. Your source recording stays private to your account. See Clone Voice for how the feature works and Privacy for how recordings are handled.
Telling listeners the voice is AI
Disclosure is what separates a narrated video from impersonation. When generated speech could be mistaken for a real person, say that it is AI-generated: in the description, the credits, or the audio itself. Some platforms and jurisdictions require a label for synthetic media; follow the rules of the place you publish.
Commercial use
Paid plans include commercial use of the audio you generate. Audio generated on the Free plan is for evaluation and personal, non-commercial testing only. Your plan and the Terms in effect when you generate determine the license for that file; see pricing.
What happens if these rules are broken
We may suspend accounts we reasonably believe are being used in any of the ways above, as the Terms allow.
Report misuse
If you believe NarrateHQ audio is being used to impersonate you or anyone else, or in any of the ways above, email [email protected] with a link to the audio or video and a short description. A person reads every report.
